Men's Basketball Survives SAA Quarterfinal Matchup, Tops Majors 62-60

DANVILLE, Ky. — The Berry College men's basketball team survived a scare on Friday night in the opening round of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) tournament, topping the Millsaps Majors 62-60 to advance to the semifinals against Sewanee tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.

With the win, Berry improves to 19-6 overall, tying the team's most wins since the 2008-09 season.

Berry was led offensively by Elijah Hirsh, who scored 24 points on 6-for-11 shooting. He also earned a double-double with 11 rebounds and was 11-for-12 on free throws. Caleb Haynes and Myles Moore also contributed double-figures. Moore is also now just one steal short of tying Berry's single-season record (DIII era).

Both teams traded blows in the first half as the Vikings held a narrow 38-36 advantage at the break. Both teams shot under 30% from the field in the second half, but solid free throw shooting from Berry helped secure the win.

  • Myles Moore: 12 PTS, 4-for-8 FG, 3 AST
