SEWANEE, Tenn. — For the first time in Berry's NCAA Division III era, the Vikings men's basketball team opened the season 3-0 after a 70-65 overtime victory over Johnson University on Saturday night.
Berry trailed by as much as 17 points, but completed the comeback with the help of a double-double from Elijah Hirsh. He scored 16 points and 16 rebounds which tied the third-most rebounds in a single game in Berry's NCAA DIII era.
Myles Moore also contributed with double-digit points, scoring 10 and going 7-for-7 at the line. The Vikings outscored the Royals 40-23 in the second half, shooting 48.5% from the field.
Berry returns home on Tuesday to host Toccoa Falls at 7:00 p.m.
