DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Caleb Johnson tallied a game-high 25 points, but Berry College lost to Lynchburg College, 86-84, at the Daytona Shootout on Monday.
Johnson was 9-of-18 shooting and led three Vikings who notched double digits. Freshman Blake Scherrman had 15 points and Lee McCloud contributed 10 for BC. Scherrman was 4-of-10 from beyond the 3-point arc.
LC's Zack Burnett (18 points) broke an 84-84 tie after making a jumper with eight seconds left in regulation. Berry was unable to launch a shot to tie or win the game thereafter.
Berry shot 44-percent (30-69) to Lynchburg's 43-percent (26-61). The Vikings led in rebounds, 42-41. Lynchburg made 15-of-25 3-pointers to BC's 9-for-20.
The Vikings held a 56-44 lead at the break. Berry led most of the second half. The contest featured seven ties and 13 lead changes.
Bobby Ford paced the Hornets (8-3) with 24 points. He was 8-of-11 from the field, all from 3-point range. Lynchburg had five players score in double figures.
The Vikings (2-7) travel to play at Rust College (Miss.) on Tuesday, Jan. 5.
