MARYVILLE, Tenn. — The No. 16 Berry College football team opened the 2019 season with a 31-10 win at Maryville College on Saturday afternoon.
Berry's star wide receiver Mason Kinsey put the Vikings up with a trio of first-half touchdown receptions, as the Vikings led 21-7 at the half. Cade Kennemore hauled in Heath Burchfield's third touchdown pass of the day in the third quarter to extend the lead. Trey Gregory then hit a 36-yard field goal in the fourth to secure the win.
Burchfield had a strong season-opener, completing 12-of-17 passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns. Freshman quarterback Gavin Gray recorded 45 passing yards and a touchdown. Isaiah Dawson led the Berry rushing attack with 38 yards. Kinsey finished with seven catches for 103 yards and three scores.
A.M. Harris recorded seven 10 tackles to lead the Berry defense that held Maryville to just four third-down conversions.
Berry will host LaGrange on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. in the team's home opener.
