MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The 6-1 Vikings will come off the bye week to host the 2-5 Millsaps Majors at home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
The Matchup – Berry College Vikings
Berry's last game was a huge 24-14 road win over the then No. 22 Hendrix College Warriors two weeks ago. The Vikings held one of the nation's top rated offenses to their lowest point total since Nov. 16, 2013 and now sit atop the SAA standings alongside Washington University in St. Louis.
The Vikings are led offensively by quarterback Slade Dale who has thrown for 856 yards and eight touchdowns this season. He has also rushed for 537 yards and two scores for Berry this year. Dale is backed up by running back Austin Lowe who is ranked top five in the conference for rushing yards per game (80.0) and sports four rushign TDs of his own. The Vikings offense is averaging 432.6 yards and 31.9 points per game.
The Berry defense is anchored by one of the nations top pass rushers in junior defensive lineman Mamadou Soumahoro. He is ranked third in the nation in sacks per game (1.43) and total sacks (10.0). Soumahoro broke the Berry sack record for a single season during the Hendrix game where he posted five tackles, two sacks and three tackles for a loss.
Senior linebacker Matt Farinella is also having an outstanding year, posting a team-best 48 tackles. Defensive back Malcholm Graham is No. 2 at 35 tackles on the year and leads the team with three interceptions. The Vikings defense is currently allowing 21.7 points per game and 336.7 yards per game.
The Matchup – Millsaps College Majors
The Majors are coming off a tight loss to WashU, 31-28, on Saturday after the Bears blocked a 29-yard field goal attempt late in the fourth quarter to win the game. The Majors come to Valhalla Stadium sporting a 1-4 conference record with their lone victory coming against Birmingham-Southern.
The Majors are led by running back Taz Watson who is second in the SAA for rushing touchdowns (11). Watson has rushed for 529 yards this season and averages 75.6 per game. Quarterback Chance Clowers has thrown for 1,055 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions on the year. He will look to connect with wideouts Beau Wells and Rashad Sims who have 400 and 267 yards, respectively. The Majors will enter Saturday's game averaging 364.7 yards and 24.1 points per game.
Defensively, Millsaps is led by senior defensive back Jared Bullock who posts a team-best 69 tackles including an interception. He is flanked by senior linebacker Hector Sandoval who has 63 tackles and a sack on the year. The Majors enter the game allowing 411.1 yards per game and 32.0 points per game.
