Freshman Obie Brannon Named SAA Special Teams Player of the Week

ATLANTA - Freshman Obie Brannon was named Special Teams Player of the Week for games played on Oct. 15, the league office announced Monday.

Brannon was clutch in the Vikings big 24-14 win over the then 22nd-ranked Hendrix College Warriors. The freshman kicker entered the game in the second quarter after starter Mitchell Blanchard left the game with an injury, and nailed both field goal attempts including a long of 38. Brannon also handled kickoff and punting duties where he averaged 38.8 yards per punt and placed three inside the opponents 20. He also averaged 61.5 yards per kickoff.

Brannon's performance helped the Vikings defense hold the then No. 3 offense in the nation to just 14 points, their lowest point total since Nov. 16, 2013. With poor starting field position for Hendrix, running back Dayton Winn, who averaged over 105 yards per game coming into Saturday, was held to just 49 yards on the ground.
