MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2016 Academic All-District football teams on Thursday with Berry's senior punter/kicker Mitchell Blanchard earning recognition for the first time.
The Suwanee, Ga., native has a 3.43 grade-point-average in finance and international business.
A three-time All-SAA and Academic Honor Roll selection, Blanchard has earned four SAA Special Teams Player of the Week honors this season. He ranks top five in the SAA in field goals made (7) and points (46) and is third in the league for average yards per punt (40.4).
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
