Last year's Game: Dale Jackson threw for two touchdowns and a career-high 276 yards, but Berry College lost at Maryville, 41-14. The game was the season-opener for both clubs. Jackson was 18-33 for 276 yards, but also tossed two interceptions. His first touchdown strike was a 32-yarder to Chris Lilly. That TD cut the Scots' lead to 14-7 with 4:26 left in the first quarter. Lilly had five receptions for 98 yards in the contest. The Scots out-gained the Vikings, 481 to 345 yards. Matt Farinella made 11.5 tackles to lead the BC defense.

Berry Outlook: The Vikings will be improved, simply by being a year older and stronger. Head Coach Tony Kunczewski and his staff were pleased with the team's recent intrasquad scrimmage ...On offense, junior Dale Jackson (231 passing yards/game) has earned starting assignment for the second straight year. Joining him in the backfield again is sophomore Jalen Tuggle. However, Kunczewski and staff like their stable of backs. "We have a lot of depth at runningback," Kunczewski said. "Tristen Cline and Austin Stiefel have looked sharp. I wouldn't be surprised if a number of guys see action."...Christopher Lilly is BC's leading receiver (965 yards, 9 TDs in 2014)...On defense, linebacker Matt Farinella (96 tackles), safety Anthony Batey (57 tackles, INT) and LB Preston Stewart (8 sacks, 16 TFL) lead the unit...Special teams shoud be strong with junior Mitchell Blanchard handling both kicking and punting duties.

Maryville Outlook: Three-year starting quarterback and senior Evan Pittenger will anchor the Scots' behind center. In 31 career games Evan has completed 324 career passes at a 56.1 success rate. He has 26 career passing touchdowns and has 22 career rushing scores. Running back Trenton Shuler returns for his junior season following a 1,000-yard campaign. Shuler has averaged over six yards per carry and 21 touchdowns in his career....On defense, linebacker Gabe Johnson, a three-time All-USA South honoree, has tallied in 30 career games 102 solo stops in 182 total tackles. The Scots' secondary led the USA South the league in team passing efficiency defense allowing only 108 yards per game via the air. Two-time All-USA South standout Micah Smith leads the unit with his 104 career total tackles and three interceptions.
