Margaret Knight Ellington has built Berry's equestrian program into one of the premier teams in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA).

The head coach of the Berry College equestrian team since the team's varsity beginnings in 2007, Ellington has led the program to incredible heights, advancing to the IHSA National Championships in each of the first three varsity seasons.

Ellington has led the Vikings to three IHSA national titles, with the Western team taking the top spot in 2011, 2015 and 2016. Additionally, she has coached several individual national champions.

In the spring of 2023, Ellington coached the newly formed NCEA Jumping Seat team to an impressive debut with two 4-4 ties against other top NCEA teams in the country, which resulted in a pre-season ranking of 5th in the fall of 2023.

Ellington graduated from Sewanee: The University of the South in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish. She then attended Middle Tennessee State from 1993 to 1995 where she obtained a degree in education.

Ellington's riding background is primarily hunter/jumper and hunt seat equitation. She has been involved with the IHSA since her freshman year in college.

She and her husband, Dr. Kent Ellington, reside in Rome.Â
