Baseball Falls to Oglethorpe in SAA Tournament Opener

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Berry College baseball team dropped the opening game of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament on Friday afternoon to Oglethorpe by a 15-7 final score. 

Berry will face Sewanee in an elimination game tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Ben Coker earned the loss, tossing 2.0 innings. 
  • Oglethorpe plated a pair in the first inning before a monstrous second that saw six Petrels cross the plate. Berry trailed 8-0. 
  • The Vikings answered off an error in the third, but Oglethorpe plated two more in the fifth. 
  • Berry plated three in the fifth off the bats of Quinn Smith and Zach Huie. Berry trailed 10-4.
  • Doubles from Spence Johns and Dylan Beasley cut the lead to 10-6 in the eight, before a Casey Whitaker RBI single made the score 10-7. 
  • Oglethorpe plated five insurance runs in the ninth to secure the win.
