JACKSON, Miss. - Berry's bats stayed hot for the second straight day in Mississippi this afternoon, leading the Vikings to a 9-4 victory over the Fontbonne University Griffins.
As a team, the Vikings collected 11 total hits and three doubles, two coming from Jacob Delk.
The Griffins were able to score first in the top of the opening inning, but the Viking's came back strong in the bottom of the first, plating six runs. Jacob Delk kicked the scoring off by doubling to bring home two runs, making it 2-1 Vikings. Tyler Calvert then doubled to bring home Delk and extend the lead to 3-1. Dylan Beasley singled up the middle to bring home two additional runs, and then scored later off a Devin Post single, to cap the inning and give the Vikings a 6-1 advantage.
After giving up a run in the top of the second inning to make it 6-2, Berry pushed across two runs in the bottom of the third. This gave the Vikings some insurance with an 8-2 lead. The Griffins would try to mount a comeback, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh to cut into the Vikings lead, but Berry added one more run on a sac fly by Delk to secure their third win of the season, 9-4.
JT Eggert started the game on the mound for Berry, but was relieved by freshman Milan Sutaria who pitched five innings to get his first career win for Berry.
