EWING, N.J. - On a cloudy day in the mid-Atlantic, the Berry College Vikings suffered their second loss of the season against the No. 14 ranked College of New Jersey Lions, the final score 3-0.
The Vikings had the ball to get the day started, but the Lions pounced on it quickly and set the tone for the rest of the first half. The only goal of the half belonged to the Lions. They got a corner kick, sent it in toward the front of the goal, and headed it in to break the scoreless tie. With 20 minutes left in the half, the Berry couldn't capitalize on their chances, and the Lions took the 1-0 advantage into the break.
The threatening clouds followed through as the second half started, rain pouring down onto the field. However, the Lions were unbothered by the torrent and extended their advantage midway through the second half. The Vikings had 25 minutes to tie, but the Lions kept applying pressure, and after scoring again on a penalty kick to make the score 3-0, a comeback for the Vikings seemed unlikely. They remained scoreless to close out the game, the final score 3-0.
TCNJ outshot the Vikings 30-6 for the game, including 12-0 in shots on goal. They also forced 14 corner kicks and held the Vikings to only two. The team will remain in New Jersey as they travel to Montclair to take on the No. 23 ranked Montclair State University Red Hawks. The game will kick off at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow, September 27.
