Vikings Win Pairs Challenge; Team Advances to Semifinals

GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Berry College beach volleyball team opened up play at the AVCA DIII National Championships with a pair of 3-0 wins against LaGrange and East Texas Baptist to win their pool on Friday evening and advance to the semifinals. Maddie Dahl and Lura Underwood also won their pool pair competition with wins over LaGrange and Huntingdon.

The matches were played till completion so the first team to three points was declared the victor.

4. Kat Kelyman/Sabine Rudolph (Berry) def Danika Durham/Kaitlin Gilchrist (LaGrange) 21-15, 21-7

1. Madie Whitehead/Kara Schmit (Berry) def Boston Morin/Paige Dickson (ETBU) 21-13, 21-12
2. Becky Blaydes/Keira Kruk (Berry) def. Bella Fields/Caiden Lasala (ETBU) 21-9, 21-15
3. Kaylee Howell/Ailee England (Berry) def. Luci Guardia/Katelyn Holloway (ETBU) 21-17, 21-11

With the win the Vikings win their pool and advance to the semifinals where they await the winner of Stevenson and Lynchburg who they will play at 11:15 AM on Saturday, April 18.

Dahl and Underwood also competed for the Vikings in the pairs challenge in Pool G. The pair took down Emerson Melvin/Andie Wright of LaGrange in dominant fashion 21-7, 21-9 and then sealed their pool win with an even more dominant performance against Huntingdon defeating Gracie Wallace/Jayna Wilson 21-5, 21-7.
