MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The women were back on court for their action-packed weekend as they took on Centre College at the Rome Tennis Center falling 7-0.
Keeping the same lineup as yesterday, Saris Mejia / Paige Evans at first doubles began to sync with one another, no longer letting balls past them as they covered the entire court. Paige and Saris performed exceptionally well on serve but were unable to convert on their deuce breakpoints, narrowly losing 5-7. Carolina Hanson / Maggie Cox at second and Sydney Coppola / Charlee Eidson at third doubles, despite 1-6 losses, understood the keys to victory and will continue to push one another towards success.
Berry was unfortunately swept in their singles matches, but not before
Carolina Hanson at third singles had a word to say about it. The consistency from Carolina was extraordinary as both players pushed themselves to the brink of exhaustion. After losing the first set narrowly, Carolina stepped on the accelerator to win her second set 6-1 and forced a deciding 10-point tiebreak. Carolina made her opponent work for every point as she ran corner to corner, forcing her opponent to come up clutch. Saris Mejia at first singles was another standout performer as she went on the offense every point against a defensive baseliner, consistently finishing points with volleys and overheads in a narrow defeat.
The women produced great tennis today despite their 0-7 loss to Centre, and will continue to look forward as they train to take on Oglethorpe for their final conference match next Sunday.
