WTEN vs Brenau

Vikings Outlasted by DII Brenau 5-2

| By:
MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Following a refreshing spring break where the women honed their tennis skills for an entire week, Berry was eager to showcase their continued improvements against Division II Brenau University but ultimately fell 5-2.

Doubles began highly contested as Saris Mejia / Carolina Hanson at first doubles remained on serve for almost the entirety of the match, giving up just a single break of serve in a 5-7 defeat. However, Maggie Cox / Paige Evans at second doubles took control of the net and shifted the momentum in Berry's favor, tying the match score 1-1. Third doubles Sydney Coppola / Charlee Eidson showcased consistent serving and returning but faltered against their opponent's strong net play in a 2-6 loss.

Saris Mejia had her best start of the season by dictating play and hitting shots with the narrowest of margins, repainting all of the singles lines in a 6-0 first set win! However, her opponent hung on and hustled for every ball, pressuring Saris into making mistakes in a 3-6 second set defeat. In the deciding set, the Berry College supporters stood on the fenceline rallying Saris onwards, motivating her to ultimately secure a 6-3 win in the third set! Another standout singles performance came from Sydney Coppola at sixth singles. After a 4-6 first set loss, Sydney began a consistent routine of moving her opponent from corner to corner and then bringing her to the net, allowing her to win the crucial break of serves that allowed her to comeback and win the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Carolina Hanson, Maggie Cox, Paige Evans, and Charlee Eidson at second, third, fourth, and fifth singles, respectively, all played their best tennis, but Brenau University finished the day as the stronger team, narrowly beating Berry College 5-2 in match count.

Please look forward to our next match against Millsaps on Saturday, March 28th, at the campus tennis courts!
