VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Vikings were unable to finish the comeback against Marymount, losing by a final score of 11-7.
Finn McClendon and
Owen Morini led the Vikings with 2 goals apiece to pace the scoring.
Things got started with Marymount scoring an early goal within the first minute of play. Two more consecutive goals from the Saints led to a 3-0 deficit for the Vikings with under 10 minutes to play in the first quarter.
Moments later, the Vikings took advantage of a man-up situation, as
Michael Beirne got loose to score off an
Owen Morini assist. Another Marymount goal would set up
Finn McClendon to score and cut the lead to 2 off a
Collin Dean dish, as the Vikings closed the quarter behind 4-2.
After another Marymount goal, the Vikings responded with
Finn McClendon's second goal of the contest. The action continued to go in favor of the Vikings, as
Griffin Smiles scored off an assist frm
Michael Beirne. After two straight goals from Marymount, Berry responded again to stay in striking distance, with goals from Morini and
Davis Witherspoon, as Berry went into the half down 8-6.
The Saints scored two unanswered in the third quarter to take a 10-6 lead over the Vikings heading into the fourth quarter.
Despite an early fourth quarter goal from Morini, the Vikings were not able to muster up a comeback, ending the game with a defeat by a final score of 11-7.
