ATLANTA, Ga. - After a grueling day of tennis this past Friday when Berry played back-to-back matches against Snead State CC and Wallace State CC, the women were well conditioned and prepared to travel to Emory on a brisk Sunday morning. Despite their efforts they would fall 7-0.
With Berry's top player, Saris Mejia, sidelined due to an illness, her partner
Carolina Hanson was paired with
Charlee Eidson at second doubles. Carolina's experience at the net showed as she was able to find pockets of momentum, with her and Charlee being the only doubles team to score game wins in their ultimate 2-6 defeat.
Maggie Cox /
Paige Evans at first doubles and
Sydney Coppola /
Sloane Vaccaro forced several deuce games, but were unable to convert in their 0-6 losses.
Carolina continued to impress at second singles, producing one of the longest matches of the day despite a 1-6, 0-6 loss.
Maggie Cox at first singles,
Paige Evans at third singles, and
Charlee Eidson at fourth singles fought for every point and will continue to learn and improve following their 0-6, 0-6 defeats.
Sydney Coppola at fifth singles showcased a variety of shots and tactics in an effort to extend the match, but fell to a precision hitter 1-6, 0-6.
Sloane Vaccaro made her regular season debut at sixth singles, losing 0-6, 2-6 but finding momentum in the latter half of the second set following a string of phenomenal returns that saw her break her opponent's serve twice.
With a difficult series of matches now behind them, the women will apply what they have learned against Piedmont University in a scrimmage this upcoming Tuesday.
