MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Vikings were unable to keep pace with Hampden-Sydney as they fell victim to a slow start by a final score of 19-9.
The Tigers got things going with two quick goals within the first two and a half minutes. Andrew Duffy responded though with a goal off a gorgeous pass from Michael Beirne to get Berry on the board. A 6-0 run saw the Tigers take an 8-1 lead over the Vikings headed into the second quarter.
After a Tiger goal to begin the second, Duffy came up big again off a pass from Davis Witherspoon to make it a 9-2 ball game. A 6-1 run ensued though, with William Lee closing the second quarter with a goal, still leaving Berry to face a 15-3 deficit at the halftime break.
Lee continued to make his mark in the second half as he knocked in another to make it 16-4 with 5:24 left in the third quarter. Goals from Andrew Ingram and Boston Juliao kept Berry in striking distance despite still facing a 17-6 deficit at the end of the third.
Goals from Duffy, Lee, and Finn McClendon powered Berry in the fourth, but two goals from Hampden-Sydney closed the game out by a final score of 19-9.
The Vikings are back in action against Piedmont on Saturday at home at 1 PM EST.
