Jackson, Miss. - The Berry College women's basketball team (14-10, 8-5) dropped a tough road game 82-53 to the Millsaps College Majors on Thursday evening.
The Majors came out quickly as they jumped out to a 13-0 lead. The Vikings finally connected on a bucket from Elly Callihan with 4:44 to go to make it 13-2 but the Majors would extend their lead to 16-2. The Vikings would finally get a run together as Alana Azeta and Briaiah Lewis hit back to back buckets but it would be the Majors that would take a 20-10 lead at the end of the first. The Majors continued to stretch their advantage in the second quarter as they extended their lead to 30-12. Callihan would then hit another basket to try to keep the Vikings in it but the Majors continued to score as the Vikings trailed 39-17 at halftime.
The Vikings tried to slow down the Majors in the third quarter as the team traded baskets to start. Callie Jackson then hit a big three followed by a layup from Lauren Ellard to pull the Vikings within 44-26 with 6:53 to go. That would be as close as they got as the Majors extended their advantage to 64-37 at the end of the third. The Vikings tried to rally in the fourth as Briaiah Lewis scored two early baskets but they were unable to put a run together as they fell 82-53. Callihan led the Vikings with 19 points.
The Vikings wrap up SAA play on the road as they travel to Memphis, TN to take on Rhodes on Saturday, February 21 at 1:00 PM
