GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Berry College women's soccer team played the Southwestern University Pirates to a scoreless draw on Sunday afternoon at Varsity Field.
The Vikings are now 8-5-1 (3-2-1 SAA) with two games remaining in the regular season, while the Pirates move to 5-5-4 (0-2-2 SAA).
Both goalkeepers stole the show in this contest. Kate Hill and Southwestern's EJ Searfoss were both tested by the opposing offense all afternoon. After a shot on goal in the opening minute for the Vikings, the Pirates countered with an on-target shot of their own and two quick corner kicks in the first five minutes of the half.
Hill and the Berry defense shut down each one of early chances by the Pirates, and from there both teams went back-and-forth with quality scoring chances and stellar defensive plays. By the end of the first half, Hill and Searfoss each had four saves with the game still scoreless.
Southwestern only increased their offensive intensity in the second half, outshooting Berry 17-9, but once again Hill and the defense weathered the storm. She made another nine saves in the half, including a stretch of four saves spanning the 53rd and 58th minute.
Meanwhile for Searfoss, she matched Hill with three saves in the second half before eventually leaving the game with an injury, allowing Erin York to see action in net. Mia Cutler tested her quickly with a shot on goal in the 70th minute but was denied.
After that point the Vikings only got one more shot as the Pirates defense locked in down the stretch. Berry had one final opportunity to score with less than a minute remaining after a Southwestern yellow card, but a foul in the box negated it and the game ended in a draw.
Hill finished this game with 13 saves, tying her career high set against Emory on September 3, 2025. Offensively, Sienna Christensen led the team in total shots (4) and shots on goal (3). On the Southwestern side, Searfoss made seven saves in 69:39 minutes of action. Their leader on offense was Jackie Powell with seven total shots and four on goal.
The draw does give the Vikings a much-needed point in the standings. They currently sit as the three seed in the SAA with 10 points, trailing only Trinity and Centre. Their next game is Friday, October 30 at Bob Pearson Field against Sewanee. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
