MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Vikings kicked off their NCEA season this Friday at home, ultimately ending in a 7-3 loss against Sweet Briar.

The day started off with fences, and the Vikings put in good rides resulting in some good scores, including a 78 from Willa Rose Akins, with a heartbreaker rail at the last second costing the point (81-78), and a 79 from Haley Wilson (86-79). Emily Sudderth wrapped up fences by winning Berry's first point of the day against Sweet Briar's Sadie Swift, with a huge 20 point difference (80-60).
Berry went into the flat portion down 3, with the score being 4-1 Sweet Briar.

As we moved onto the flat, the Vikings put in some solid rides. Willa Rose Akins scored a 75 to win her point against Sweet Briar's Gracie Robertson, who scored a 64. Devon Ansley also secured her point aboard Vance after both her and her opponent Abigail Schreiner were awarded a re-ride. Ultimately Ansley prevailed, 72-68. The final score was 7-3 Sweet Briar. Despite several strong rides on the flat, the Vikings ultimately fell to Sweet Briar by final score of 7-3. With solid patterns across the lineup, Berry showed plenty to build on as the season goes on. We wish the lady Vikings luck as they prepare to take on #3 College of Charleston on the road next Sunday.
