Vikings Drop Tight One to Eagles

Louisville, Ky. - The Berry College men's basketball team (4-7) dropped a tough one 68-67 to the Spalding University Eagles on Monday evening on the road.

The teams traded buckets to start the game and then used two big three pointers from Drew Winegarden and Ryan Luttrell to take a 13-7 lead five minutes into the game. The Eagles would rally to tie the game 17-17 but the Vikings responded with two big threes from Isaac Plavich to regain a 23-19 lead midway through the half. The Eagles kept up though as they rallied to go up 30-26 with 7:18 remaining. The Viking would come right back on a 7-0 run with buckets from Bennet Frazer and Cameron Pope to regain a 35-32 lead with :14 seconds. The Eagles would get a last second free throw as the Vikings took a 35-34 halftime lead. 

The Eagles would regain the lead 39-35 to start the second but the Vikings didn't stay down for long as they quickly tied it 39-39 with baskets from Mason Lawrence and Pope. Once again the Eagles would reestablish their lead as they went up 51-47 with 13:13 remaining. The Vikings would quickly take the lead back with back to back threes from Isaac Martin to go up 53-51 with 12:08 to go. The Eagles would then rally again to tie the game before stretching their lead to 64-57 with 5:10 left. The Vikings didn't give up as Luttrell nailed a big three and then hit a layup to make it 64-62 with 2:20 to go. The Vikings weren't able to pull off the comeback as Cannon Armstead hit a late three but they ran out of time as they fell 68-67.

The Vikings continue action on the road as they head to Jackson, MS to take on Belhaven on Saturday, January 3 at 4:00 PM.
