MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry College Women's tennis team faced Jacksonville State University, a Divison 1 program, for their start to the spring season. This team proved to be a stronger opponent than anyone that Berry had faced, but the women battled at every point. Saris Mejia / Carolina Hanson at first doubles and Maggie Cox / Paige Evans at second doubles lost their matches 1-6 after forcing their opponents to raise their game after winning their opening service games. Charlee Eidson started strong at third doubles and will continue to develop throughout the season as a new doubles pairing despite their 0-6 loss.
Saris Mejia and
Maggie Cox at first and second singles played their game and battled against stronger opponents point by point, but ultimately lost 1-6, 0-6 and 1-6, 1-6, respectively.
Carolina Hanson and
Paige Evans at third and fourth singles played a game of attrition as they ran down every ball while showcasing their defense capabilities en route to 0-6, 1-6 and 2-6, 0-6 losses, respectively.
Charlee Eidson at fifth singles impressed as she continues to noticeably improve her ball speed and athletic performance in a 1-6, 0-6 loss.
Kylee Craig made her debut at sixth singles and, despite the 0-6, 0-6 scoreline, showed tenacity by playing point by point and keeping a positive mental outlook.
The Berry women lost 0-7 to Jacksonville State University but were excited to face tough competition. The women will leverage this experience in their pursuit of the conference championship beginning just a few short months from now! The Vikings will return to action at home on Friday, February 6 at 4:00 PM against Wallace State Community College Hanceville.
