Vikings Unable to Keep Pace with Sewanee

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry College men's basketball team took on the Sewanee Tigers in a home conference matchup. Berry was outmatched as they lost 72-82.

Cameron Pope paced the Vikings with 17 points, with Nile King pushing through 12 to pace the double digit scoring for the Vikings.

Berry won the tip-off and Nile King started the scoring with two made free throws. At the first timeout, Berry had a two-point advantage as both teams were trading baskets early on. Sewanee came out firing from beyond the arc, connecting on three of their first six shot attempts. With a little over halfway to go in the first half, the score remained tied at 12-12. At the eight-minute mark, Berry still struggled to find any offensive production from the three-point line, starting 0-12. Sewanee then went on a 14-0 run to lead the game 32-16 with three minutes left in the half. Drew Winegarden finally found the bottom of the net from three to tally the first for the Vikings. Sewanee went into halftime up 36-21.

Cameron Pope and Berry tried to gain some momentum at the start of the second half, however Sewanee would answer these attempts with a timely three point shot to stop the momentum. Isaac Martin nailed a three to cut the Tiger lead to ten with 14 minutes to go. Pope also felt the momentum as he hit a transition three to create a single digit deficit. Sewanee stopped all hope that was there for the Vikings with two threes to bring the Tiger lead back to 19. Sewanee remained in control for the rest of the game as they took down Berry by a final score of 82-72.

Berry will be back in action Friday at Millsaps College.
