MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry men's basketball team traveled down to Oglethorpe University to begin their conference schedule. The Vikings fell behind early and was not able to catch back up as they lost 78-83.

Cameron Pope was able to get on the board first for the Vikings with a driving layup. The offense started slow while only recording four points in the first five minutes until Ryan Luttrell came off the bench to make his first shot from beyond the arc. At the commercial timeout, the Petrels led 18-7, continuing to hold the Viking offense to a slow start. Oglethorpe continued to extend that lead to 19 as Berry had no answer yet on offense with seven minutes to go in the first half. Oglethorpe went into the half up 44-22.

Berry came out of the second half with 13 quick points to cut the lead down to 14 with 15 minutes to go. Isaac Martin made a three for his eighth point of the game to be down ten points of the Petrels. Going into the commercial timeout with 7:56 to go, Berry was climbing back at a score of 56-66. Things kept going good for the Vikings as in the last seven minutes they brought the deficit to two points with 25 seconds remaining. Oglethorpe missed their first free throw and made the second to give Berry one last shot to tie the game. The shot fell short for the Vikings as they fell in their first conference matchup. Pope led the way for the Vikings with 28 points from the field.
