MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Women's volleyball swept the SAA Weekly Awards this week with Madie Whitehead being honored for offense and Andrea Hurt being honored for her defensive efforts.
Madie dominated the competition at the net as she usually does with a total of 45 kills in just three games against Washington and Lee, Randolph-Macon, and Emory on her way to her third Offensive Athlete of the Week Honor. The Pearland, Texas, native led the team in each game and had her best game of the weekend against Washington and Lee, where she had 19 kills and a career-high 6 blocks in the 3-1 victory. Whitehead rounded out the weekend with three service aces, eight blocks, and a total of 26 digs in the three-game span, getting it done in every aspect of the game for the Vikings this past weekend.
Andrea's consistent dominance on the back line of the Berry defense continues to impress the field, with her earning her second SAA Defensive Athlete of the Week honor this season. The defensive anchor reeled in 60 timely digs in just three games, including her career-high 37 digs against Washington and Lee. The Columbus, Georgia, native also contributed two service aces and four assists to round out her production over the three games this past weekend.
Hurt and Whitehead now set their sights on helping the Vikings to yet another SAA Tournament Championship, as they face off against Rhodes in the first round of action on Thursday November 13 at Oglethorpe in Atlanta.Â
