MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Viking volleyball swept the SAA Athlete of the Week charts this past week with Madie Whitehead being named SAA Offensive Athlete of the Week and Andrea Hurt being named SAA Defensive Athlete of the Week.
The duo created nightmares for Covenant, ETBU, and Oglethorpe this past weekend with a combination of Hurt's cat-like reflexes on the backline and Whithead's explosiveness as an outside hitter.
Hurt totaled 37 digs over the three-game stretch, including a highlight-reel play against East Texas Baptist, where she tracked down a nearly insufferable ball and kept it in play, leading to a Berry point. Andrea's awareness and adjustment ability anchored the backline for the Vikings all weekend. Hurt sits in the top ten in the SAA for total digs with 269 on the season and over 4.3 per set.
Whitehead was a war machine on the front line for the Vikings to claim her second SAA Offensive Athlete of the Week honor, with a total of 41 kills over her three outings, including a 22-kill explosion against No.2 ETBU with an attacking percentage of .426 that nearly lifted the Vikings to victory. Her 22 kills, 2 aces, and 2 blocks sets her atop the Berry Volleyball history books with 26 points in a four-set match. She also leads the SAA in overall points with 263.5, points per set with 4.32, overall kills with 222, and kills per set with 3.64.
Don't miss Madie, Andrea, and your Vikings in action as they hit the road to take on Millsaps and Rhodes on October 11 and 12.
