MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - In their home opener, Men's Lacrosse handled business to advance in their home tournament with a blowout win against LaGrange College, 21-7.
Leading the Vikings with six goals, the previous week's SAA Athlete of the Week
Michael Beirne got the scoring started in game one in less than two minutes, assisted by
Jackson Blaylock who also had the next goal assist for
Tad Zappa.
Henry Tynes earned the win between the pipes for Berry with 30 minutes played, allowing four goals with three saves while transfer
Addison Irwin proved worthy in his fifteen minutes of play with five saves.
Defensively the Vikings stood strong no matter who was in the goal and offensively the team exploded today after a tough loss last week to the former National Champions.Â
It was 4-0 before the Panthers would be able to whip one by to reduce the momentum the Vikings were producing. However, before the close of the first, the home team snagged two unassisted goals one from
Orion Danou and the other from
Braxton Rich.
Continuing the scoring frenzy in the second quarter, six Vikings found goals, two from
Michael McKenzie and three from
Michael Beirne as they closed out the first half with an 8-0 run to crush all of the hopes of the Panthers.
With a halftime score of 15-4, the second half for the Vikings was mostly defense as the scoring slowed a tad.
Caleb Johnston picked up 10 ground balls to lead the team and throughout the entirety of the game Berry shared the ball well with nine assists.
Berry found six more goals and gave up just three in the entire second half with two more goalies joining in on saves.
Ten players found the net for the Vikings while the whole LaGrange team saw seven goals collectively in this stellar home opening win for the Vikings.Â
This win means the Vikings will play at 3:00 PM ET tomorrow against Piedmont University.
