Team Effort Pushes the Vikings Past Maryville

DANVILLE, Ky. - Berry Women's Basketball took care of business against Maryville College Scots on Saturday afternoon in magnificent fashion, 88-59.

The Vikings had five players in double figures as Jeryn Jarrett, Elly Callihan, and Karlee Armstrong each had 13 points to pace the Vikings. Sylvia Kahoro also added 12, while Kenadie Lee contributed 10 points to round out the scoring for the Vikings.

Jeryn Jarrett and Karlee Armstrong were the story of the first period, as their combined 12 first-quarter points helped the Vikings to a 24-20 lead at the end of one.

The high-octane offense continued in the second quarter when Jeryn Jarrett picked a Maryville ball-handler's pocket and went coast-to-coast for an and-one layup that gave the Vikings a 29-23 lead with 8:32 left in the first half. Midway through the half, Elly Callihan caught fire as she scored 7 straight points for Berry to put the Vikings ahead 38-31. Tight defense and elite shot-making from Berry down the stretch of the second half as they enjoyed a comfortable 49-35 lead at the break.

Wasting no time, Berry's tight defense continued to stifle the Scots in the second half, as they forced a total of 25 turnovers for the game. The Vikings took control when Kenadie Lee stole the ball from a Maryville ball-handler and took it the other way where she would drive baseline and dish the ball to Brooke Jones for an easy jump shot off the glass, making it a 60-43 ballgame in favor of the Vikings late in the 3rd quarter. The Vikings closed out the quarter with a 16-4 run to take a 72-47 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was all Berry, as the Vikings completed their blow-out victory in style, 88-59, behind a career-high from Jeryn Jarrett with her 13 points (5-7) and 4 steals.

The Vikings will be in action again on November 26 at home against Brevard College. Tip-off is set for 6 PM ET.
