SEWANEE, Tenn. - On October 5th, the Berry College Swim Team delivered an outstanding performance at the Sewanee Relay Meet, showcasing their depth and teamwork across a variety of relay events. The men's team secured an impressive 2nd place overall with 76 points, while the women's team finished 6th with 38 points.
Men's Highlights:
- In the 200 medley relay, the "A" team consisting of Ethan Whiting, Andrew Horn, Billy Blood, and Sam Tate, posted a strong time of 1:40.24, finishing 4th. Tate also put up the fastest 50 free relay split in the conference the season (21.12)
- In the 200 backstroke relay, the "A" team consisting of Nick Fonzo, Whiting, Caden Wolf, and Blood, put up a third place finish in a time of 1:38.68. Fonzo threw down the fastest 50 back time in the conference this season (24.27)
- The team's standout performance came in the 200 breaststroke relay, where the relay team of Wolf (28.89), Evan Pelletier (27.31), JC Cook (27.39), and Tate (26.73) claimed first place with a time of 1:50.32.
- The 500 freestyle crescendo relay saw the team of Pelletier, Tate, Fonzo, and Whiting finish 2nd with a time of 4:16.78, further demonstrating their strength in distance events.
- In the final men's event, the 4x100 individual medley relay, Berry's "A" team placed 2nd with a solid swim from Tate, Fonzo, Blood, and Whiting, clocking in at 3:40.97.
Women's Highlights:
- The 200 medley relay team of EK Martin, Ashley Young, Molly Heath, and Emily Wolf got things started for the women with a 7th place finish in a time of 1:57.50. Young put up the second fastest 50 breast split in the conference this season in a time of 31.40
- The women's team's put up a strong performance in the 3x500 freestyle relay, where Martin, Lily Groves, and Wolf finished 5th with a time of 17:09.91.
- The women's team's best performance came in the 4x100 individual medley relay, where Young, Groves, Martin, and Heath clocked in at 4:24.76, placing 3rd.
Mixed Relay Performance:
- Berry College also performed well in the mixed 200-yard medley relay, where the team of Heath (29.94), Tate (27.00), Fonzo (23.44), and Young (25.06) tied for 2nd place with a time of 1:45.44 to close out the meet.
The Berry College Swim Team returns to action on October 19
th at Emmanuel College.
