ROME, Ga. - The Vikings Men's Golf team took on their first round of the Chick-Fil-A Invitational today, and currently sit in second overall.
Out of 24 teams, Berry's second place after 18 holes is very commendable. The team held first place through the first 13 holes, but Methodist set their aim on the host team and narrowed the margin and took first with an even score (Berry is only one stroke behind at +1).
Sewanee (B), Centre, Millsaps, and Oglethorpe (B) are all at Berry's host tournament representing the SAA, but the Vikings lead them all.
Today was led by
Kevin Verrill's 69 round with an eagle and five birdies to set the tone for tomorrow. Verrill is currently tied for fourth overall individually.
Jay Sanders played well today and finished strong as he finished the last seven holes at 4-under with a final round score of 73 (+1).
Cam Baker posted the same round of 73 with three birdies compared to Sanders five.
Charles Kyle and
Noah Farland rounded off the day for the Vikings with scores of 74 and 78, respectively.
Berry will head back to Stonebridge tomorrow in hopes of taking home the trophy in their home tournament.
