Rob Maraski had 15 saves for the third time this season as Berry's men's lacrosse team fell to the University of the South, 11-7, in men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon in Sewanee, Tenn.
Michae Beirne had a three-point day for the Vikings as he had a hand in the first two goals of the game for BC (6-5, 1-4 SAA). First, he assisted
Ethan Perlakowski on the opening game 2:20 into the contest. Then, after Sewanee tied the score, Beirne would score late in the first quarter to give Berry a 2-1 lead after the opening 15 minutes.
A scoring drought would stymie the Vikings over the next two quarters. Sewanee would be held to just a pair of goals in the second quarter to give the home side a 3-2 lead at halftime; however, a 5-0 run over the opening seven minutes after halftime would give the Tigers an 8-2 advantage.
Joey Cuthbert stopped the run with a goal, but a goal on the man-advantage for the home side would make it 9-3 heading to the fourth.
The Vikings would out-score Sewanee 4-2 in the fourth quarter, closing the game with a 3-0 run.
Tyler Banfield and
Connor Ryan each scored off assists from Cuthbert, while Beirne scored his second of the game.
Berry will close out the regular season Apr. 16 against Oglethorpe at Valhalla Stadium in Mt. Berry, Ga.
