Vikings Move Into Pod Winner's Bracket

MOUNT BERRY, Ga.— No. 2 Berry dominated Millsaps College, 14-0, in five innings with 15 hits Friday afternoon at Kay Williams Field to move into the winner's bracket of the Southern Athletic Association Softball Championship Berry Pod.

The Vikings' bats were phenomenal as almost every batter in the lineup got a hit to contribute to their 14 runs. Morgan Frye was 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and an RBI. Paige Bennett was 2-for-2 with a two-run home run.

The Vikings put three runs on the board in the first as the first three batters got on with Aleeya Thornton singling up the middle and then a Frye double. Katie White then scored Thornton on a fielder's choice. Frye and White were brought in by Anna Jackson and Paige Bennett as they both had sacrifice flies to make the score 3-0 at the end of the first.

In the bottom of the second, the Vikings brought across four more runs as Katie Parker had a leadoff single to right to begin the five-hit inning. Shelby Daniel, Frye, and Bennett all recorded singles. White recorded a two-RBI double to left center. The Vikings had a strong lead of 7-0 after two.

In the bottom of the fourth to finish the game off, the Vikings doubled their score, scoring seven more runs as they strung across eight hits to bring the game to the final. Jackson had a two-RBI double off the center field wall, then Bennett homered down the left field line for two more runs. Latifa Madesko had a two-run single to right center to bring in the final runs of the game.

Blair Hall (14-3) started in the circle for the Vikings, getting the win with seven strikeouts and four hitless innings. Madison Hollis pitched one inning allowing no hits with one strikeout to complete the combined no-hitter. Daniel made an outstanding play, back-handing the ball at shortstop and making the throw on her knees in the fifth inning to preserve the no-hitter.

The Vikings (33-4) will play in the winner's bracket game Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. against the winner of the loser's bracket contest between Millsaps (14-22) and Sewanee.
