Wesley Wade homered twice and drove in four runs, but Maryville rallied to defeat Berry, 15-9, in baseball action Tuesday afternoon in Maryville, Tenn.
The Vikings, who started a four-game road trip to Tennessee with the contest, got out to an ideal start. Three batters into the game, Wade connected on a two-run blast to right center to put BC ahead 2-0. Later in the inning, a
Wesley Maxey ground out with two runners in scoring position brought in another run, making it 3-0.
Berry then started to go to work on the bases. After a walk to
Andrew Pendleton put runners on the corners, the Berry catcher raced towards second to try to steal. As the throw went to second,
Joey Garcia raced home from third, scoring on the double steal to make it 4-0. After a
Zac Warren double plated Pendleton, the Vikings found themselves in a similar situation two batters later. This time, it was
Garrett Lang who stole second and Warren who stole home, making it a 6-0 contest.
BC (4-8) would add three more in the second. Wade connected on his second homer of the game to make it a four-RBI day and an 8-0 affair. Maxey would later tack on another RBI as his sacrifice fly made it a 9-0 contest through an inning and a half.
From there, things would go sideways for Berry. Maryville would rally all the way back, taking the lead in the seventh on the second three-run homer in as many innings. The Scots (12-0) would add more insurance runs to pull away for the win.
Berry will now head for Memphis and the start of Southern Athletic Association play for 2023 as the Vikings will take on Rhodes. The three-game set consists of a scheduled Friday single contest and a doubleheader Saturday. Friday's game will start at 3 p.m. EST.
