Tyler Banfield scored twice, but Berry's men's lacrosse team ran into a hot goalkeeper as the Vikings fell 13-4 to Baldwin Wallace Friday afternoon in Lexington, Ky., on the campus of Transylvania.
The Vikings (4-2) had 23 shots on target, but were just able to get four in the back of the net. Berry had 46 shots for the game, compared to just 32 for the Yellow Jackets (3-2).
Berry trailed 3-0 after one, but a goal to start the second quarter by
Ethan Perlakowski pulled the Vikings within two early. Baldwin Wallace would answer back with three goals before the end of the quarter, making it 6-1 at halftime.
Dillon Marchant would find the back of the net 90 seconds into the third quarter to bring the Vikings back within four. After two Yellow Jackets goals, Banfield scored the first of his pair before the third quarter ended to make it 8-3 going into the final 15 minutes.
Unfortunately, Berry would get no closer. BW would score five times in the fourth quarter and Berry would drop its second contest of the season.
Nick English went 11-of-20 on faceoffs, while
Rob Maraski made 12 saves for Berry. Joe Storner made 19 saves for Baldwin Wallace.
The Vikings will return back from Kentucky, but will head back next Saturday for their next game, at Centre, to start Southern Athletic Association play. Opening faceoff is set for Noon.
