With a balanced scoring effort, Berry's women's basketball team topped Southern Athletic Association foe Sewanee, 52-43, on the road in Sewanee, Tenn. Friday night.
As Berry opened the third quarter,
Elly Callihan started a 6-0 run to stretch the lead over the Tigers up to seven, 33-26. Free-throws by
Sylvia Kahoro brought the score to 43-31 to end the frame. Berry's defense was phenomenal only allowing Sewanee five points in the third period.
Berry (14-9, SAA 7-5) led by a dozen to start the fourth, but Sewanee (4-19, SAA 1-11) fought to put pressure on the Vikings, going on a 7-0 run in the beginning of the quarter. Kahoro and
Sydney Blankenship responded as they both netted three-pointers to push the lead to six, 49-43.
Elizabeth Sierzant brought the game to a close with free throws.
Sewanee held a slight lead throughout the first and second frame until
Kenadie Lee poured in a layup with 2:19 remaining in the half. The Vikings never looked back after taking the lead late in the last minutes of the first half. Berry headed into the locker room with slim lead of 27-26.
Kahoro led the Vikings with 13 points and Lee followed with 12. Sierzant led with seven rebounds.
The Vikings will continue on the road in Danville, Ky., Sunday afternoon with tip-off set for 1:00 p.m. against SAA opponent Centre.
