Sarah Wright scored 14 and
Kenadie Lee added 13, but a 42-8 free-throw discrepancy proved to be too much for Berry to overcome as the Vikings fell 71-58 Friday afternoon against Millsaps in Jackson, Miss., in Southern Athletic Association action.
A 7-0 run heading into halftime gave the Vikings (8-5, 1-1) a 25-18 lead heading into halftime, with Lee scoring five of the points in the run. The good vibes would end quickly after halftime as the Vikings were held scoreless for the first four minutes of the third quarter with the Majors going on a 17-0 run to take a 33-25 lead. Millsaps (11-2, 2-0) would stretch the lead to 10, 43-33, but a
Sylvia Kahoro basket in the final seconds of the quarter made it 45-41 entering the final 10 minutes.
Elizabeth Sierzant brought the Vikings back within a point with a 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter, as the Majors answered with six points in a row to get the lead back to seven. Lee and Wright would each connect on a 3-pointer to snap the run and bring Berry back within one, 51-50.
That would be as close as the Vikings would get. Millsaps would out-score Berry 20-8 in the final six minutes of the game. The foul count was 20-7 in the second half and 31-9 for the game, with two Vikings fouling out and three others with four fouls.
Berry will be back in action Sunday at Birmingham-Southern, with tip time set for 2 p.m.
