Sydney Blankenship scored 23 points as Berry's women's basketball team held a consistent lead on the road at Hendrix College for a 78-66 win in Southern Athletic Association play Friday evening in Conway, Ark.
Kenadie Lee was a big scorer for the Vikings in the second half as she put up 13 points. The Vikings kept at least a six-point lead throughout the second half to lead Berry to a win.
Berry's offense played lights out, with the defense forcing turnovers to limit Hendrix chances. In the second half, Berry held the lead the entire time to shut down the Warriors. The Vikings' offense had their biggest lead of 15 in the third quarter.
The Vikings (10-7, 3-3 SAA) trailed 14-9 midway through the first quarter, but would hold the Warriors (5-14, 2-4 SAA) scoreless the rest of the period. Once
Elly Callihan connected on a 3-pointer with 2:39 left in the quarter, Berry had a 17-14 lead and would never trail in the game again.
Including Blankenship, three players scored in the double digits for the Vikings. Lee scored 16 points and Callihan added 10. Lee and
Elizabeth Sierzant each had a game-high four assists, with Blankenship,
Ellie Gearing, and
McKenna Lentych each pulling down team-best six rebounds.
The Vikings will continue their road trip on Sunday playing SAA opponent Rhodes College. Tip-off time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Memphis, Tenn.
