Berry's men's soccer team saw its six-game unbeaten streak come to an end in its Southern Athletic Association opener as the Vikings dropped a 3-0 decision to the University of the South Saturday afternoon in Sewanee, Tenn.
An 11th minute goal put Berry (3-1-3, 0-1) behind the 8-ball to start the contest, as Sewanee (6-1, 1-0) took the early lead. The Vikings were stymied as they couldn't get a shot away in the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, Berry came close to an equalizer but
Nathan Carlson's shot hit the top of the woodwork. A Sewanee goal in the 55th minute made it 2-0 and forced Berry to take more chances offensively. Late in the game, with the Vikings throwing men forward to try to get on the scoreboard, Sewanee would take advantage and score a goal in the 90th minute to seal the victory.
Dylan Bloch had a shot on target in the 88th minute, with that shot going down as Berry's only one on target.
The Vikings will not have much time to recover before their next game as the Vikings step out of conference to face LaGrange Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in LaGrange, Ga.
