Valhalla Opens for 2022 Home Season

Live Stats | Game Program | Live Video

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Football fans will make one of their five scheduled pilgrameges to Valhalla Stadium at Williams Field this Saturday as Berry starts the home schedule for 2022 by taking on LaGrange College. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m., with live streaming available via Vikings All-Access.

Berry enters the contest 1-0 after a thrilling, 31-24, victory over Maryville last Saturday in Maryville, Tenn. Gavin Gray's 50-yard touchdown pass to Deiondre Wilson with 16 seconds to go provided the go-ahead touchdown as the Vikings improved to 7-3 all-time against the Scots.

Berry has two of the Southern Athletic Association's Players of the Week following last weekend's victory. Brock Skinner had 10 tackles and 3.5 tackles for a loss thanks in part to three sacks as he racked up Defensive Player of the Week recognition. Matthew Syverson connected on four extra points, made a field goal, and averaged nearly 40 yards per punt en route to picking up Special Teams Player of the Week honors from the league.

The Vikings have a 6-1 all-time lead in the series with the Panthers. In the 2021 edition of the contest, Berry ended the day compiling 443 yards in total offense as the Vikings broke out to a 31-0 halftime lead and never looked back en route to a 34-21 victory. Berry's defense shut down LaGrange's ground game, giving up just 53 rushing yards.

This will be the season opener for LaGrange. The Panthers were scheduled to face Middle Georgia State to begin the season, but the game was canceled due to issues within the MGSU program. LaGrange was picked to finish seventh in the USA South Preseason Coaches Poll; however, the Panthers return almost every starter on offense from last season's team.
