John D'Amelio homered and
Wesley Wade drove in four runs as Berry's baseball team saw its season come to an end in the Berry Pod of the Southern Athletic Association Baseball Championships with an 18-10 loss to Rhodes Friday afternoon at William R. Bowdoin Field.
Berry (25-17) found itself down 5-0 before its first turn at bat. A throwing error allowed
John Poist to score with the first run of the game for the Vikings in the bottom of the first, but BC still trailed by four after one.
After Rhodes answered with a run in the second, Berry had its best inning at the plate, scoring four runs to cut the lead to a run.
Blake Hyman's two-run double started the scoring for the Vikings, with a passed ball later in the frame plating
Trevor Barron. Wade would drive home his first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-5 through two frames.
After a scoreless third, Rhodes began to put the game out of reach with two runs in the fourth, a run in the fifth, and three runs in the sixth. Wade's shot down the line in right with the bases loaded cleared the sacks and made it 12-8.
Rhodes (24-17-1) would answer back with four runs in the seventh and a single run in the eighth to make it a 17-8 game. D'Amelio would cap the scoring for the Vikings when he pulled a 1-2 pitch over the fence in left for a two-run homer. Rhodes would score the final run of the game in the top of the ninth.
Spence Johns, Berry's Male Athlete of the Year, went 1-for-3 in his final game in a Vikings uniform with two runs scored.
