MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - All of the schools of the Southern Athletic Association will descend upon Valhalla Stadium this Friday and Saturday for the 2022 SAA Track & Field Championships.
The Vikings are hosting the event for the first time since 2016, with their spot in the rotation amongst SAA teams bumped up a year. Last year, both Berry sides finished third in the SAA Championships. Both teams were also pegged to finish third in the SAA preseason poll of coaches, with Centre picked to finish at the top of both preseason polls, as Rhodes joined the Colonels as the co-top pick on the women's side.
Currently, the Vikings men's side is the top-ranked team in the USTFCCCA standings among SAA teams, with the women ranked third. In meets to thus point, the Vikings have several athletes that are currently ranked at the top of the SAA standings in their respective events:
At the Berry Field Day Invitational two weeks ago, the Vikings were able to edge Centre in the meet on both sides. Berry's men won the meet with a 153, three points better than Emory and 26 points better than Centre. Berry's women were second in the meet but were 12 points better than the Colonels.
Since the program restarted, the best finish for Berry on both sides in the SAA Championship is third place.
The meet begins Friday morning at 8:45 a.m. with the men's 10K. Field events will begin at 9 a.m. at Dickey Fields.
