AnnaKate Estock ended her season much like she began it with three goals and four assists for a seven-point night as the Berry women's lacrosse team saw its season come to an end with a 19-10 loss to Birmingham-Southern Friday in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Athletic Association Championship in Memphis, Tenn.
Trailing early 2-0, Estock fed
Maddie Mashburn for Berry's first goal of the contest with just over 10 minutes elapsed in the opening quarter.
Riley Norris would score from
Morgan Davis 22 seconds later to knot the score, 2-2.
A BSC goal late in the first quarter made it 3-2 after 15 minutes. Early in the second quarter, the Vikings tied things back up. Estock would score an unassisted goal just before the three-minute mark of the quarter to even the game at 3-3.
From there, a 5-0 spurt by the Panthers made it 8-3 and put the Vikings on catch-up duties for the rest of the half.
Adrienna Van Soelen would find the back of the net to make it 8-4, then Estock scored off a feed from
Abby Sprayberry for an 8-5 contest with just over two minutes to go. However, BSC would score twice in the final minute of the half to take momentum into the locker room with a 10-5 advantage.
The teams traded tallies to start the third quarter, with Sprayberry scoring on an Estock feed to make it 11-6. After two goals in rapid sucession by BSC, Estock completed her hat trick on an assist from
Cydney Maddox to make it 13-7. The score remained the same until the final minute of the quarter when BSC scored to make it 14-7 heading to the final 15 minutes.
Two goals midway through the fourth quarter stretched BSC's lead to 16-7, with Mashburn stopping the run with a goal to make it 16-8. BSC (10-8) stretched the lead to 10, 18-8, to start the running clock, but the Vikings would stop the clock on
Alexa Medor's 22nd goal of the season with 3:36 to go. BSC scored again to make it 19-9, but Van Soelen scored with the Vikings short-handed to make it 19-10 in the final minute. The goal was Van Soelen's 29th of the season.
Ally Washburn made 10 saves in goal for the Vikings in the loss. Washburn and
Mary Axelson tied for the team-high in ground balls with four. Seven different players caused a turnover for the BC defense.
The Vikings close the season at 9-6, tying the school record for wins in the process. It's the first winning season for BC since 2015 and the squad's .600 winning percentage is the second-best in school history behind the 2012 team that went 9-5-1 (.633)
