MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry's women's lacrosse team fell 19-12 to Sewanee today at Valhalla Stadium in a Southern Athletic Association contest.
The Tigers would start the game off by scoring three goals on four shots in the first five minutes of the game.
AnnaKate Estock would open up the scoring for the Vikings by putting one in with 8:45 left in the first. From that point on Sewanee (10-4, 2-1) and Berry would go back and forth with goals. The score at the end of one would read 6-3 in favor of the Tigers.
In the second quarter, a foul drawn by
Abby Sprayberry would set up a free position shot and she would capitalize, cutting the Vikings' deficit to just two goals. Molly Cross would then set up
Haley Larsen for two scores, with a Sewanee goal in between, making the score 7-6. Sewanee would then go on a five-goal run stretching their lead to 12-6 before
Maddie Mashburn would end the drought with a free position shot with under a minute to play in the second, making it 12-7 at the break
The Vikings would make a bit of a comeback in the 3rd. After a Sewanee score to put the Tigers up 13-7, Berry would score three straight, from the hands of Sprayberry, Cross, and Mashburn to make the game 13-10. Sewanee would then once again answer the Vikings again scoring two goals in under two minutes to stretch their lead back to five where it would stay heading into the fourth.
The Tigers would start off the hot like they had every quarter scoring three of their own before Berry's
Jaden Russell would find the back of the net with 7:15 remaining in the game, followed by
Haley Larsen off a Sprayberry assist with 6 minutes remaining as the score read 18-12. The Tigers would score one last goal with 2:56 remaining and the final score would read 19-12 in favor of the Tigers.
The Vikings will be in action next Saturday as they travel to North Carolina to face the Monarchs of Methodist University.
