Strong Fourth Quarter Not Enough to Push Vikings Past Petrels

Berry College's women's lacrosse team fell 16-13 on the road to the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels in Southern Athletic Association play Tuesday night.

In the first, Oglethorpe (10-4, 3-3) would come out the gates fast. The Stormy Petrels would score three goals, while holding the Vikings scoress to take a 3-0 lead heading into the second.

The second looked to be the same with Oglethorpe scoring two more before Abby Sprayberry would get loose to put the Vikings on the board. The Vikings would then outscore the Stormy Petrels 3-2 with goals coming from Riley Norris, Alexa Medor, and Molley Cross, who would score the final goal of the first half with 16 seconds remaining. At the half, the Vikings would trail 7-4.

In the third, the Stormy Petrels would come out like they did in the first, outscoring the Vikings 4-2, with the only scores for Berry coming from Adrienna Van Solen. Heading into the fourth, Oglethorpe would lead 11-6.

The fourth quarter was a scoring frenzy. Oglethorpe would find the back of the net first and extend their lead to six. The Vikings (9-4, 2-3) would then score two more from the hands of Medor and Sprayberry before the Stormy Petrels would score two more. The Vikings would then outscore Oglethorpe 5-2 in the final eight minutes of play, with goals coming from Cross, Van Solen, Medor, and Haley Larsen. However, the Vikings late push was not enough and they would fall to Oglethorpe 16-13.

On the defensive side for the Vikings, Ally Washburn would tally six total saves.

The Vikings will be back in action at home this Friday at 11:00 a.m. against the Rhodes Lynx in the home regular season finale for Berry.
