Mt. Berry, Ga - No. 14 Berry continued to be perfect in Southern Athletic Association conference play as they secured the doubleheader sweep against Sewanee, 10-1 and 5-1, on Saturday at Kay Williams field.
Game One: Berry 10 Sewanee 1
Five runs in the third inning was enough to put the Sewanee Tigers out of sight as the Vikings (17-7) continued their dominant offensive streak.
In the first inning,
Anna Jackson got going with her first triple of the season, scoring
Katie White to give her team the first lead of the series. In the second inning,
Paige Bennett grounded out the shortstop, but scored
Blair Hall in the process.
In the third,
Anna Jackson tripled for the second time, tacking on two RBI in
Riley Jackson and White. The Vikings started to break it open when
Morgan Frye singled to left field, sending
Anna Jackson home.
Blair Hall doubled, adding two more runs to make it 7-0.
In the fourth, the Vikings weren't done yet as
Morgan Frye hit a two run homer furthering their lead to 9-0. A sacrifice fly by
Abbey Gamble scored
Shelby Daniel and made it 10-0. Sewanee (3-19, 1-5 SAA) would score its only run of the game in the fifth, but it wasn't enough to extend the game beyond the frame.
Starting pitcher Hall recorded six strikeouts and only one walk in the four innings that she pitched.
Danielle Sudick relieved Hall in the fifth.
The Vikings recorded 11 hits, as Hall led the team with three.
Game Two: Berry 5 Sewanee 1
The first run of the game came in the third inning from White who scored on a passed ball to give BC the early lead.
Aleeya Thornton singled in the fourth sending Hall to the home plate. Shortly after, White continued to be efficient on offense, singling out to center field and adding an RBI for herself.
Morgan Frye hit her second home run of the day in the fifth inning. In the sixth, Thornton added the fifth and final run of the game off a
Riley Jackson flyout.
Pitcher
Madison Hollis got the win, recording six strikeouts, four hits and only one run.
Hannah Gore relieved her pitching only one inning, but striking out two batters, only walking one.
Berry (17-7, 8-0 SAA) recorded 11 hits in game two, as
Katie White led the team with three.
Berry will be back in action Sunday at 12 p.m. at Kay Williams Field for senior day, and the last game of their series against the Tigers.
