No. 13 Berry dropped a non-conference doubleheader at No. 17 Randolph-Macon Thursday afternoon, 4-3 and 2-1, in Ashland, Va.
In game one, the Vikings (10-7) fell behind 4-0 but bounced back with three in the sixth to draw closer.
Anna Jackson's RBI double started the scoring, with a single by
Paige Bennett scoring one batter later plating
Anna Jackson and
Riley Jackson to make it 4-3.
That would be as close as Berry would get. The Vikings would be kept off the board for the rest of the sixth. Berry would get a base runner on via an error in the seventh with two out, but a line out would end the contest.
Game two would be a tight contest, with R-M taking a 1-0 lead in the second on a solo homer.
Abbey Gamble would help the Vikings tie the score in the fourth, as her double to left plated Bennett to make it 1-1. Randolph-Macon would take the lead back in the bottom of the fifth with a run on a sacrifice bunt with a runner on third.
Berry would get singles in the sixth and the seventh, but couldn't string hits together as the Vikings dropped both ends of a doubleheader for the first time this season.
Berry will be back in action Friday as part of the Cross Bay Bash, facing No. 9 Christopher Newport in its first game at 1 p.m.
