Nick English and
Tyler Banfield each had a hat trick as Berry's men's lacrosse team scored the first six goals of the game en route to a 13-7 victory over LaGrange College on Tuesday night in LaGrange, Ga.
The Vikings (1-0) jumped on top early as English scored the first goal of the season for Berry just after the opening draw.
Colson Burgoyne, Banfield, and English would follow up with goals to give the Vikings a 4-0 lead midway through the opening quarter.
Noah Steiner and
Jackson Blaylock would join in on the scoring action before the period ended and the Vikings led 6-0 after the first 15 minutes of the season.
LaGrange (0-2) would score the opener of the second quarter as the teams would alternate goals in the period.
Nick Caruti answered LaGrange's tally with a goal, then after another LC goal, Banfield's second goal of the game was Berry's eighth of the half, giving the Vikings an 8-2 lead going in to halftime.
The hosts would pull within four with the opening two goals of the third quarter, but a 3-0 run in the final three minutes by the Vikings put the game out of reach heading to the final period.
Jake Sheerin scored with the man-advantage to make it 9-4, with English's hat trick goal restoring the six-goal lead. The lead bulged to seven with less than a minute left in the period as
Ethan Perlakowski scored his first of the season.
Dylan Marchant would score midway through the fourth quarter to give Berry it's 12th goal, with Banfield adding his hat trick tally with just over three minutes left to close the scoring in Berry's 13-7 win.
English also helped Berry control the faceoff dot Tuesday night, going a perfect 16-for-16 in faceoffs. As a team, the Vikings had 28 ground balls to just eight for the Panthers.
Berry will be back in action this Friday for its home opener against Southwestern University. Opening faceoff is set for 6 p.m.
