Baseball Drops Opener to Emory

Andrew Pendleton hit his first collegiate home run, drove in three runs, and scored twice as Berry lost its season opener to Emory, 17-5, Tuesday afternoon in baseball action in Decatur, Ga.

The Vikings (0-1) fell behind 6-0 after two innings of play, but crept closer in the third on Jack Poist's RBI double. One inning later, Pendleton connected on a three-run homer to right to trim Emory's lead to 6-4.

Emory (1-0) would push the lead back to six with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. In the seventh, Pendleton would double to lead off the inning, then scored on John D'Amelio's RBI ground out.

Unfortunately, that would be as close as Berry would come as the Eagles would score seven runs over their final two innings at the plate to pick up the victory.

Charles Stephenson (0-1) took the loss after allowing six runs (two earned) in two innings of work. As a team, the Vikings committed four errors which led to four unearned runs.

Berry will be back in action this weekend at the Millsaps Baseball Classic in Jackson, Miss. The Vikings will start play Friday against (RV) Millikin at 7 p.m. EST.
