Mt. Berry, Ga. - A stifling defensive effort helped Berry to defeat Pfeiffer 13-3 in women's lacrosse action at Valhalla Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings (4-1) allowed just three shots on goal in the first half, with
Ally Washburn making the save on all three. Pfieffer (0-2) wouldn't get on the board until five mintues were gone by in the third quarter; by that point, the Vikings had already run out to a 9-0 advantage.
The going was still tough for Berry offensively early as the Vikings led just 2-0 after one quarter, with Adrienna van Soelen and
Alexa Medor scoring the goals for BC. The lead would double in the second quarter, with
Charlotte Concilio and Medor each adding tallies.
Berry jumped out quickly in the third quarter, placing better shots on target and finding the back of the net.
Maddie Mashburn and Haley Larson each scored to start the period for BC, with Medor scoring twice more to make it 8-0. Mashburn would then score again to give Berry the 9-0 cushion.
Pfieffer finally got on the board, then added a second to crawl back within seven at 9-2. Larsen would get her second goal of the game before the quarter ended to make it 10-2 heading into the final 15 minutes.
Abby Sprayberry scored on the advantage early in the fourth quarter, with Annakate Estock adding her first to finally give Berry a 10-goal lead. Pfeiffer would stop the running clock with a goal to make it 12-3 with 1:34 to go. A yellow card was issued to the Falcons and the clock was adjusted to add an additional second on after the clock had expired. On the ensuing free position shot, Van Soelen scored as the horn sounded for the second time, giving the Vikings a 13-3 win.
The Vikings would finish with eight assists as a team on their 13 goals. Medor finished with a six-point game after tallying four goals and two assists. Van Soelen and Sprayberry each added a pair of helpers as the duo closed with three-point games each.
Berry will be back in action at Centre Friday at 4 p.m. as Southern Athletic Association play begins.
